Force of Nature
The first novel of this “series,” might just be the two, but the first was an uncertain start, loaded with existential angst and dread, as the story pulled apart the inner-turmoil of a small town, beset by tragedies. The last third of that novel was quite gripping, and I looked up the next one from the same author almost as soon as I finished that first novel. Grabbed Force of Nature, read the first paragraph, more a prologue, and promptly set the book aside for a few days.
Picked it back up and read voraciously, and the “Australian Lit” framed as a simple murder-mystery wraps a neat psychological package along with the usual Australian Outback playing a role. Plus the main character’s angst about — well — that was the first book.
Part way through the novel, I started to wonder if the main protagonist was more like a minor character, at times, just off the side, as an observer, maybe not really an investigator — although, the denouement includes reflections.
It’s fiction the male character grows emotionally. Fiction.
Good book. Suggest reading them in order.
