At the British Museum, the Reading Room is now a gift shop. I’m sure there’s something to be said for that little slip. Some modern analogy. It escapes me. Of course, the material from the British Museum’s Reading Room has moved over to the British Library. Probably a better place for it, anyway.

Do you think the Elgin marbles (and other art works) should be returned to their point of origin? Are they owned in perpetuity by the original country/artist or is there an unspoken sunset rule that says after xx number of centuries, the item(s) now belong to the possessor?
