I have noticed that for me, it’s not unheard of for big loud trines to seem to work the opposite way astrologers predict; ie., they are ranting about all the wonderful things that will transpire, but I am hit by a bus. And sometimes squares seem to work the other way. I am reading doom and gloom in astrology columns, but in my own life things good things are happening.
I use several schools of astrology when I write the horoscopes or do readings. In one school of thought, “squares” – the tough angles – serve as trigger points for action. Depends on how the rest of the chart plays out, the point of soul’s development, and how one deals with adversity. In part, I straddle the fence. My strict “forecast reports,” what’s available as transit report in the astrofish.net store, that’s straight up doom and gloom for square. Spells out a traditional interpretations, usually with a little bit of my own flair, but still, a computer generated report can only do so much.
The question about trines being good and squares being bad, in a personal interpretation, or a consultation, I’d work with it much differently. And the square described, especially if it’s Mars, Jupiter – or even Saturn – I’d look at it differently.
Ultimately, the problem can be reduced to which school of thought a horoscope writer – or astrologer – subscribes to. And how much one adheres to just one school of interpretation. I’m blessed because I’ve studied a myriad of methods, and I don’t (can’t) stick to just one. The point of squares being “bad,” while “trines” are good is an example.
I fell into the “trine trap,” once. Supposed to be a wondrous time, and I let my own expectations run rampant. I was sorely disappointed, as was all. But part of that was reading my chart and anticipating nothing but really good stuff. Really, really good. Excessive anticipation. Over the top. The let down wasn’t pretty. There was a final punctuation mark to the whole weekend, too, and just hammered home the point.
In a poem by A.E. Houseman, I’m sure there’s a line that goes a little like this, “I’d prepare like a wise man would/and prepare for ill and not for good.” Or something like that.
Trines are more flowing whereas a square is more abrupt. Trines, given a quick push in a good direction, can manifest wondrous events. Squares trigger stuff. Good or bad? All depends.
