Grand Etteilla ou Tarots Egytiens
That’s nice, looks French. It is. Tarot cards for the francophile? Possibly. The English translation is “Grand Etteilla Egyptian Gypsies Tarot.” Made in France – says so on the box. Grimaud imprint, no US distributor on the box or the cards, hence it is not a US Game System or any other publisher. Rare? I’m not sure. Looks like the deck was picked up by a US publisher, making this all-French version a little more occult.

Here’s the deal with these cards, and I’ve looked at a lot of tarot cards, the symbolism is different. The whole set of cards is a little bit off, and not necessarily in a bad way, either, just a tad more unusual. Perhaps it’s the leap across the pond that does it. Shown in the accompanying image, card #37 usually the queen of cups to me, is a queen of cups, but the card also calls her “A Woman Above Reproach.” Compare to #51, Queen of Swords, “Widowhood.” Ouch. Cards are like new, looks like they were never carried or even shuffled. All the cards are there, “78 cartes avec livret explicatif.” (78 cards with a book of explanations.)

Shipping and handling: that little bubble mailer costs me a dollar at the store, USPS Priority is $4.05 with $0.50 for delivery confirmation, so that all totals a flat fee of $5.55. Other shipping arrangements can be made, but will be at the buyer’s expense. The delivery confirmation, that’s, like, insurance for both buyer and seller. Usual disclaimers apply.

The Tarot of Durer – New In Box
The Tarot of Durer is not really Durer, but it’s an artist’s vision of what that deck should look like. I’m guessing here. As visible in the picture, the deck is still sealed in plastic. Saran-wrap. Shrink wrap. Or, really, cellophane. I’m pretty sure it’s really that. It’s a new deck, and I can’t speak to the images because I haven’t seen them. I think the best wording for this deck is “inspired by Durer’s work.”

This deck, since 2002, has been offered by Llewellyn. However, this one, the one for sale here? That predates the US Distributor. It’s an Italian Tarot deck.
