There are two sources of data, seeing me in Austin at Nature’s Treasures — or the weekly horoscopes.

I Identify as a Prius

This can go wrong so many ways. Blame Mercury’s current indisposed position.

On the road, in Austin, heavy traffic on the freeway, like that’s anything new — been like that for 30 years or more.

Heading in to work at the rock shop, dreary winter’s day, low clouds clogging the minds of drivers, I saw — saw several — but one made a distinct impression — large-frame pick-up truck with over-sized tires, lift-kit, sides spattered with mud, and across the tailgate? A simple banner-like bumper-sticker:

Painful Mercury Retrograde

Painful Mercury Retrograde

Because I track the cycles, and the circles in the cycles? Mercury Retrograde gets blamed for many vile attributes.

This whole next year? They all start in water and end up in air, like starting in Pisces and stopping, eventually, in Aquarius. Starting in Cancer, ending in Gemini?

But is it bad? Depends on how we treat the conditions, and certain amount of preparedness training.

If only there was a manual for this…

Cold Snap

Cold Snap

Dallas isn’t Dallas unless there’s some nice 4th Gen. Coffee. This trip was Cold Snap Seasonal blend, and that seemed appropriate for the weather, that icky, cold rain, with clouds that are so low, they are right down in one’s own head.

First four lines from Shakespeare’s Richard 3 — always in my mind, a great tragedy when done well.

Now is the winter of our discontent
Made glorious summer by this son of York;
And all the clouds that low’r’d upon our house
In the deep bosom of the ocean buried.

  • Richard, Duke of Gloucester (I.i)

Of possible irritation? I know I’ve used that quote before but I couldn’t locate the correct horoscope.

Blame Mercury. Or the weather.

But coffee is an assist for mercurial issues.

Notes from the Road

Notes from the Road

Passing through Waco, headed into the freezing maw of north Texas winter weather, thinking frozen north. The traffic on the interstate crawled to a stop. Middle of an afternoon, clear skies, no rain, no reason.

Construction.

My entire life, 35 (Interstate 35) has been under construction.

I blame Magnolia. The home flippers, redo experts? Stars of HGTV? Yeah, that’s where houses are still cheap. The town’s main industry is Baylor University?

While sitting in yet another medical waiting room, the HGTV series was running in the background. Up-do, re-do, and house prices in rural Texas.

Traffic. It’s all their fault. Joanna and Chip, yeah, their fault. Too bad they only do houses, and not highways.

Notes from the Road

Nobody should be forced to spend time in Waco — against his or her own will.

You choose to live there? It is a nice place. But make it a choice, not camped out on the freeway.
